18' rims on a 99 eclipse

Default 18' rims on a 99 eclipse

im gettin a 18' crono ht/pirelli tire on my 1999 eclipse gs after i get my tax return. i wanna no if the rim size would effect the handling and comfort? or is there a perfect size for a 99 gs?

i think the 18" rim is the perfect size for the eclipse. Any smaller and there is too much wheel gap. And any bigger and it just kinda looks funny.

i would like to suggest running a 225 40 r 18 its what i run on my bling wheels and they have a little more side wall than a 30 35 series tire and it shrinks the tire fender gap a bit but yes i agree w/ the engineer 18's are the way to go . i am running 18' cobos,with 225 40 r 18 potenza runflats and while they are heavy and chrome when it comes to track time i have a set of 17 inch gram lights and i also run a 225 45 r 17 proxes plus 4's and they grip really , really good but if your just going out cruising 18s do look the best

Default ride height

for the guys that are running 18's are you running with stock shocks and springs, lowered your cars, or done some custom wheel well mod? Im running 17in konigs with ventus 215/50's and have a problem scraping the wheel wells with tire. springs and shocks are HKS and Sportline but I cant remember but think it only droped the car an inch or so. I couldnt imagine running smaller tires do the roads and ride quality. how do you do it?

50's are too big IMO. I run 40's on my car and dont have any problems with the road or handling. Actually my ride quality is probably better than yours because i have tokico illumina adjustables.

where are you driving?? I have huge pot holes, torn up neglected roads and those are just the state run roads. once off the highway its like every man for themselves. I see how the rim would fit just feel that more stuff would get torn up and beat on as you go smaller. but i also checked out the adjustable set up and what was it 5 dif. settings for handling ride quality ect. how is that adjusted? do you have to pull the wheels off to get to the adjustment? and when your changing the settings can you really tell that much of a diff? and how ofter do you change yours? I dont know i have never had adjustables or been around with them just kind of seemed to me that after i played with them once or twice i wouldnt feel like climbing around and messing with it anymore

To change the setting it is on the very top of the strut right at the strut mount on top so you can change them without removing anything (besides maybe those rubber caps they put on the strut mount. And all you need is a flathead screwdriver.

no 18's. you start losing torque the bigger the wheel. i guess they are okay if you just wanna be flashy, but there are excellent wheels out there in a 16 or 17, tops. i think you'll get better handling out of a smaller wheel, unless you have serious hp. just my opinion.

Yeah I agree with that last post. I think you should just lower the car a little and get 17s in there. Don't get a tire too small to look weird in the wheel well. fill up the space and make sure the shocks and springs are tight enough not to give the wheel too much play and possibly have that wheel well scraping problem.
