1996 spyder convert, overdrive issue

I just bought a 96 spyder convertible and the auto tranny seems to work fine except it doesn't shift into 4th gear or overdrive maybe I'm not sure . If I don't push the OD button on the shift handle it shifts smoothly thru 1,2,3 but if i push in the OD button when it goes to shift it's like there is no next gear, the engine revs like I pushed a clutch in .Nothing! is there some kind of shift module or electronic shift switch on this engine? The guy I bought it from says they replaced the 5th gear and seals in the tranny but still no 5th, any ideas on why or how this is happening. I could see it if it just didn't go out of the lower gear but to shift into neutral basically is strange to me. Any help out there? thanks in advance:confused:

sounds like the 'end clutch' needs to be replaced

I read an unauthorized Mitsu forum and several people said it was the "overdrive clutch pack " and that it was accessible to replace without removing the tranny , like its located on the outside of the case maybe, anybody heard of this? I need a repair manual specific to this car , don't like Haynes too much but if thats all there is. It really seems like it"s electronic, like a shift solenoid or something similar, all other gears are smooth as new , Rev, 1,2,3and then 4th and 5th nothing, even tho the actual gear itself was just replaced. thanks for the assistance .

the overdrive clutch pack is the "end clutch" like i said. My brother had the exact same problem. And yes you can replace it without removing the whole transmission since the end clutch is just that...on the end of the transmission.
