1997 Eclipse Alarm Problems

Hey guys, I just recently bought a '97 eclipse GST (automatic) and since a few days ago the stock alarm system goes off whenever I open the doors. When I bought the car there was no fuse for the power door locks, and I realized that is because when the alarm goes off, even when disconnecting the battery it turns it the alarmoff, but right when it isconnected again, the alarm goes back on. So I took out the door lock fuse, the anti-theft fuse, and even the horn fuse. But still, the alarm goes off,but instead of the horn going off, the lightsjust flash now,and the only way to turn it off is to disconnect the battery and hook it back up. Is this a common problem, and does anyone know how to fix this, or just completely disable the alarm all-together? Thanks!

Welcome to MF bud.
None of those fuses will do anything in turning off the stock alarm. You have to take your key and unlock the door with it and that will turn off the alarm. If you lock the door while the door is open, it will also set the alarm. The next time you have a chance, lock your doors the way you have been and look for a green security light on the instrument cluster. If you see it, that means your car is armed. If not, it could mean that the bulb to that light is blown. Obviously, the car is arming, this is just to get you to recognize when your car is arming and that it's most likely not doing it out of the blue.

So, the moral of the story is to use your key in the door to stop the factory alarm and not disconnect the battery.

Put your fuses back in first, lol.

Yeah I want to go to mitsubishi and get the key fob thing but then i realized that a full allarm with led screen and everything would be about the same price as just the one key fob from Mitsubishi. 128$ and change plus taxes plus 30$ programing fee.

Programming is easy and is in the how-to's in here and every now and again, the key fobs can be found on ebay.
Here's one that replaces the old ones.
Ebay key fob.
Note that 95-99 Eclipse/95-98 Talon and 95-00 Avenger/Sebring remotes are all the same and uses the same freqs ;)

Here's one for the Avenger (works with the Eclipse too) that uses 3 buttons instead of 2 like the one above.
Ebay Avenger key fob.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have a 97 Dodge Avenger key fob working with a 95 Eclipse GSX keyless/alarm brain.:D

Hey thanks, now, if my alarm goes off, all I have to do is turn the key in the hatch. Thanks!

Putting the key in the doors didn't work? As long as the power locks work, it will allow you to turn off the alarm through the doors...at least it has and does on my car and several 2Gb DSMs.
Something in your doors aren't right. I'm glad you got it to work though.
