me and my son bought a 1998 eclipsers/gs?the motor is chrysler 2.0 dohc with a blown engine.the tranny is a 5 speed unsure of style/design maker.my freind has a 2000 galant with a 2.4 4g64 engine.the build date on door says 10/99??alot of components in galant look the same as eclipse.measured centers on bellhousing boltups and are different.will the galant motor bolt in the eclipse with different bellhousing?the eclipse motor is on passenger side/tranny on drivers.the galant is the same way but a sohc engine.the eclipse has a computer on drivers side fenderwell and i can't see one on galant?any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated,stan and matt.

 

Would love to help you on this, but I don't know a lot about motor swaps from different vehicles. I would say make google your new best friend and do as much research as you can.

 

i have a 98 spyder and a lot of the mechanics i talk to refer my motor as a galant 2.4 so i assume that they are interchangeable. but definitely get a secound opinion.

 

the spyder 2.4L 4g64 is the same motor..manual tranny on passenger side..engine top on driver side..*check picture*.....(not sure about auto)

which tells me that with the right parts this can be done... i would recommend that....if you are spending time and money go with a 4g63T or simple 4g63..BUT *obviosly* your cheapest and best bet is to stick with the 420A you currently have...if im not mistaken...the 2.0L Chrysler/dodge NEON has a 420A but apparently its not an e-z job either...

although....if you are getting the full galant as parts car.. you should be able to gut it and plant everything into your eclipse with some modifications. again the picture shows the galant and if the one you can get looks just like that then it should work ouT fine..ALSO..if you decide on the galant engine and are looking for speed. you can ..later on...swap heads with a 4g63..the head will fit backwards and you will have to cover 5 holes...ive heard the 4g64/4g63 mate reall nice- i own an eclipse spyder 2.4L- it has a 4g64 L4 engine and im about to swap a 4g64 L4 from a 1998 2.4L galant DE into it. (both manual)

 

They are NOT interchangeable.

 

Ok now Im confused.... so the 4g64 galant cannot be done in the gs?... what about the 98 spyder? will the a 98 galant 4g64 l4 motor and tranny fit the 98 eclipse spyder? both 2.4L both 7 bolt...? - im scared-

 

The 4G64 was available from the factory in the spyder.

They won't fit, the engine and transmission are on the other side.

the main difference i c is that the spark plugs are plugged in on different locations..what does this mean.? and if it is true that the engine wont fit..will the tranny fit? (thanks for your help)<<<

thanks for replies.the car pics showed motors on drivers side.mine is not.my car 98 eclipse with420a motor is on pass. side.the 2000 galant has motor on pass.side as well.i realize spyders had motor on drivers side but the galant is in same position as oue eclipse and nothing would be backwards.would it bolt in with bellhousing??thanks stan
