95' Eclipse, dash/guage questions....

I'm wondering and hoping that someone is willing to help me with this. Haha. My 95 Eclipse's speedometer doesn't work, everything else in the dash is fine. I'm told it's a sensor that's around $100. Either way, the question is. Is there anywhere and any type of dash and guage set other than the stock ones? Thanks a ton guys! :)

If it is a analog speedometer, either the cable broke or the cable got disconnected somehow from the speedometer or the transmission.

It is an analog, the year is 1996 however. How can I check the things you have mentioned, sir. Thanks for the help!

First and maybe the easiest on your vehicle is to find the speedometer cable that is attached to the transaxle differential. This cable goes into the firewall right in back of the instrument panel. It is a pretty rigid cable. If you can disconnect the cable from the transaxle, you should be able to spin it and with another person watcing the speedometer, it will tell you if the cable is broken. You may have to spin the cable left or right to get movement on the speedometer and you may have to spin it somewhat fast. This drive cable can be pulled out of the outer cable and both ends of the drive cable should have squared ends. If it comes out and the other end is not square but is broken, you will have to remove the dash to get the broken piece from the speedometer side of the cable. Then it is just a matter of getting a replacement drive cable and replacing it.

I think you will be able to get to this cable, without going inderneath the vehicle, but if you need to raise the car to get under it, PLEASE make sure you use appropriate equipment to keep the car up, before you go under it..for any reason. I've has a neighbor get crushed by his car when he jacked the car up just to inspect the shocks, and the jack failed.
