96 gst wont go over 30mph
hey guys,
i just finished a 96 gst project car and drove it for the first time today. driving around neighborhoods is fine but once i went on a main st where the speed limit is 40mph my car would not even make it to that. it shifts through all gears fine but once i hit about 3000 rpms the car starts to buck and even flooring the gas pedal it will not go any faster. its a rebuilt engine, tranny nor engine are original to the car. i just got 2 new fuel injectors, i guess the gas tank didnt have much gas in it but was never drained, it sat for probably about 3 yrs. i dont even know where to start any advice would be appreciated!
thanks, lauren

You should definately replace the fuel filter. It is probably partially blocked, especially if it sat for 3 years. Absolutely start here, very inexpensive place to start. They are supposed to be replaced yearly (don't quote me on that) anyway. That is the classic symptom of a clogged fuel filter. $15.00 at an autoparts store. If this doesn't clear the problem, the fuel strainer on the pump assembly in the tank is the next place I would go.
