'97 Eclipse maintenance problems?
Hello, im interested in buying a 1997 Eclipse GS. its got about 95,000 miles on it, so before i buy i have a question for you guys. What should i expect in the future for maintenance problems? anything other than routine maintenance, such as oil changes and such? or do things need to be replaced around 100,000 miles? any info is appreciated
-thanks, chris.

I dont know that the gs's or rs's have a lot of serious problems except they are notorious for head gaskets going out. Oil-Check when it was changed last. I dont know about a timing belt. Just go through everything like brakes, fluids and all that or have a mechanic do it. How much are you paying for this and is it a manual or auto?
You should be fine as long as it wasnt beat on.. Just check the timing belt to make sure its not weather checked or damaged.. Otherwise you should be fine with that.. If its running good now, it should be good..
like nate said they are notorious for blowing head gaskets, and one way you can tell if it has been beaten on is to look around the valve cover by the valve cover gasket.. it is it leaking oil or has oil leaking on side of the head, it was probably abused
when i got rid of it my rs had almost 122,000 miles on it and still drove perfectly, head gasket was fine and everything... so dont really worry about that, if you take care of it and do routine maintenence (i.e. oil change every 3k, etc.) you should be absolutely fine... now as far as the price that seems a bit high to me as well... but it's also an area thing, if there aren't a lot of eclipses out your way then that might be what ur stuck with
