Alarm Problem

Hey all,

I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse 2000 GT and I am having a problem with the factory default alarm. All of the sudden, when the alarm is set or I test it by hitting the panic button on the remote, the horn no longer works. I checked to see if I somehow disabled the horn by running through the remote sequence that activates/deactiviates the "chirp" but no luck. I know that this sequence is working because there is a quiet double beep or single beep sound when I do this inside the car. The headlights blink on and off when I press the panic button or test the alarm but no horn! The horn works when pressed on the stering wheel.

I looked at the fuses and relays and pulled a couple of them and they looked ok.

A couple of questions:

1. Is there a seperate horn for the alarm than the stering wheel horn?
2. Has anyone seen this? Is there a reset or something that can get it back to normal?

Thanks,
Sonny

RE: Alarm Problem

I dont know about the new eclipses. But generally the car horn is not the alarm horn. The alarm is a speaker. Bell shaped, kinda looks like a mini megaphone. usually low, to the side and forward of the engine. the car horn is a flat, casette size black box usually in front of the radiator.

RE: Alarm Problem

Thanks for the response. I did some more checking. There are two different horns, one for the alarm that looks like a disk and one for the stering wheel horn. I tinkered around a little with the wire that leads to the alarm horn and found that it has a break or is not connecting well. If I hold it in the right place it works fine. Now I know what I need to do to fix it.

Thanks again,
Sonny
