CF Hood, need hood pins?

Do you have to use hood pins on carbon fiber hoods? The person i'm looking at buying it from says you should use hood pins? True or not?

yes you need hood pins. Usually they dont even use the latch that the stock one uses

what if it does use the latch, then do you still need the pins?

if they do then i guess you wouldnt. But im sure as a precautionary measure it would be a good idea.

NO! you dont need hood pins. If you have a hood latch then then obviously you dont need hood pins. (They were sold both ways a couple years ago when I was looking for one) But since carbon fiber isnt as durable as a steel hood slamming a carbon fiber hood down to latch it can crack it. I had a friend with a carbon fiber hood using a latch system and no hood pins. He was extremely carful with the hood and it was fine. I personally dont feel safe with hood pins because just anyone can open your hood and either steal it with a ratchet, or anything else in your engine bay. Putting a small pad lock on it just doesnt look good but safer at night.

Someone didnt read my post. I didnt say strong I said durable. How many carbon fiber hoods are out there with cracks in them and how many steel hoods have cracks?

For strong, I dont recall seeing bullet proof carbon fiber tanks in any war. I wont just on the band wagon and say carbon fiber is stronger than steel untill I see it put through test like that. Thats my opinion on strength.

most of the hairline cracks you'll see in carbon fiber hoods is just the clear coat cause it's a bit more flexible than steel is... it's usually not the the hood itself

In my opinion you should still use hood pins, that hood is alot lighter than the stock one and
as so is easier to catch the wind. Ive already seen one guy that did not use hood pins but instead the stock latch, and it still came loose and broke his window and destroyed the hood.
