Clutch problem...
 

I have a 98 eclipse GS 5 speed and the clutch lost pressure. It returns to its normal position after pressing it in, but you must pump it vigoursly to get into any gear. When it first happened I checked the fluid level and it was empty. Refilled and it now holds fluid just still does not work. What could be the problem?

Keep the cap off ofthe reservoir, pump the clutch in and out for about 3 mins total. Not aprox 3 mins... really 3 mins. Have someone watch for bubbles, and as soon as the bubbles stop, then you can stop pumping the pedal.

your gonna need someone else to help you, look on your transmission and youll see your clutch release slave cylinder. there is a nut on that. have somebody hold down the clutch pedal to the floor and then loosten that nut until it stops squirting then close it. when it is closed tell your friend to let off the pedal and then repeat. do this until only fluid comes out of the cylinder and not air.

*** when you are doing this keep the cap off of your master cylinder and make sure that you keep a good amount of fluid in there. you do not want the fluid to drop much below the fill line when you are doing this.

So doing that will bring it back or.....

And if it doesnt , does that mean I have a bad slave or master cylinder.

Also, if it is just air in the system, how does it get there to cause the clutch to fail? I never messed with it or anything.

When the reseroir goes dry, it sucks in air, thats how.

Seriously you dont need to bleed it lol.
