What are the advantages of having the Egr and removing the Egr?

the egr valve is something that is designed to take the extra fuel that you don't burn in the cylinders and re'use it to give "extra gas mileage" this is one of things that nobody well ever agree on... 1/2 people say it's stupid, 1/2 people say it works.
i personaly had one on my 99 GS, and hell, it may have been mental but i noticed smoother acceleration but no power gains.

The EGR valve does not take fuel. It takes exhaust gases and reroutes them back into the intake manifold and mixes with the intake air. Its supposed to reduce emmisions from the exhaust by creating a more complete burn on the gases.

It also will keep the intake cleaner and run a few degrees cooler as well. And as for performance you'll probably wont see any, only a check engine light depeding what year the car is.

hmm. it was explainted to me differently. (obviously lol). either way, not much difference at all. but it does clean up the engine bay a good bit and looks cleaner blocked off. but if you do it, DON'T FORGET TO PLUG THE INTAKE MANIFOLD LOCATION! lol i let mine run w/ an open vac for about 2 weeks... wow it ran like crap

Basically removing an EGR is only good for higher performance engines that are trying to remove extra emmissions parts. On a close to stock NA car i wouldnt even bother

I was told that removing the egr would keep the exhaust gasses out of my intake, which in turn would reduce sludgeand keep the intake cleaner. But on the otherhand there is also a sensor on it. Would removing and blocking it off keep my check engine light on?
....... On another note. Just got off the phone with autozone.... Guy said if i removed the egr and blocked it off the carwouldnt run right... I think he is full of $hit

haha, yea that is what a blockoff plate is for. Your car will run fine however you will have a check engine light from it
