Default RE: Engine Build

5k is just rediculous for that motor. i don't like the fact that it has stock springs either... this will make it harder on the head if you drop a set of decent cams in there (264 or bigger). is it at stock flywheel and clutch? that has some bearing... honestly after adding all of this up at a "used" price.... i only came up with about 1900-2100 for the parts and labor... throw in the actual head and block and 2500 sounds about right to me. if it's an aftermarkt clutch and flywheel you may be looking at 3k depending on quality, strength and name. tell him he can keep the injectors and maft though. i personally wouldn't pay more than 3k for this. at cimotorsports.net you can get a stage 4 6 bolt block w/ all of that stuff done balanced and blueprinted (with the option of name brand pistons, rods and CR) and a stage 3 6 bolt head w/ 1mm oversized ferra valves, 4-5angle valve job, port and polish, titanium springs and retainers... both of these for about 3900 and this is brand new with a warranty. here are the links (block - http://www.ci-motorsports.net/store/...103&page=1) (head - http://www.ci-motorsports.net/store/...118&page=1) but going the route w/ your friend you don't have to deal with or pay for shipping.

thats exactly why i wanted to run all of this by you guys, i thought 5k was high, but i didnt want to say anything to the guy about it... it's an aftermarket clutch, im not sure about the flywheel... like i said i'll talk to the guy today and i'll get all of the specific details... thanks again for the help everyone, it's GREATLY appreciated... the way i figured it, he's got a 1g eclipse, and im not a big fan of that body style... so i was gonna get the motor+ for 5k, then find a gsx or tsi body or with a blown motor for about 2k, and pay a total of 7k for a gsx/tsi with a motor that only has 5,000 miles on it and is already built...that was my logic... there was no way in heck that i was gonna pay the full 5k, i was gonna talk him down, but i wasnt sure as to how much i'd be able to, that's where you all came in, thanks! i should have the rest of the list up tonight

i didn't know that.i thought it was simply the engine, flywheel, and clutch for 5k. i don't think i would pay 5k for a 1st gen though... what kind of turbo setup is on it? can't be much w/ 450's on it.

3900 is alot for that long block still. Like i said i think 2500 is more around the range especially the prices of 6-bolts these days. You could have everything done alot cheaper. He may have spent that much all together on the block but it doesnt make it worth that to sell. Know what i mean
