Engine Swap

I have an eclipse GS 1996, it has a A588 engine in it. I want to swap it for a 4g63. I want to know what would be the best place to get one of those babies. Some else I wanted to add was that I was reading the magazine Super Street and it showed a spider, that got a AWD conversion. He got it in Arizona, but I was wondering if they do it in CALI.

RE: Engine Swap

What is a A588 motor the eclipse n\T stock is a 420a? and the 420a cant be swapped with the 4g63 turbo motor it would cost way to much $$ it would be cheaper to buy a GSX or GSt

Well the car isn't working right now and If I can't swap the engine whats the point in wasting more money. Should I just get another 420A and sell the car, and then buy a gst, or gsx.

well no you could build a fairly fast car out of the 420A if it needs a motor just rebuild your motor with internals to hanlde boost and buy a turbo kit and youll be making a good amount of power. I mean with that at 10 PSI you might get near or over 300WHP and on FWD that is not to bad good for 12\13s

you may be convincing me to stay with the motor, but which internal brands are good for withstanding high boost

ask slow420a what the 2G non turbo guys do for boosting htere motors. low compression pistons ect ect. JE crower eagle blah blah there are tons, I would just do some small research of the car and see what most people use and what they get out of it

that is all preference.. I like AWD so id say GSX if you want a track car for autoX or straight line 1\4 mile the GSX is the good choice.. If you want a street racer the GSt is better because a race from 30MPH or more the GSt has the edge with less drivetrain drag

RE: Engine Swap

The A588 is another name for the 420a, its less popular and is refered to it in 1000faq.com vfaq.com, and some other misuforum write up for the 420a that I stumbled upon the other day.

The 4g63 swap is impossible with out an extreme amount of cash, the search button does wonders.... along with the write ups at the top of the forum that explain that but i am sure you read those.

A 420a on 10 psi will make just over 200hp at the crank, 300whp will be attained by 15psi depending on other mods.

For boosting, the min for over 10 psi are, j.e. pistons preferably 8:6:1 compression ratio, eagle rods, clevett bearings, and a mls headgasket.

If your straped for cash sell the car and buy a 1g, their is no way to have a cheap fast 2g weather its a 4g63 or a 420a. The 420a takes alot more cash to make it go.

If your serious about building the 420a pm me with what you exactly want out of the car and I will compile a list with parts, vendors, prices...ect.

RE: Engine Swap

This is what i'm going to try and do, try to sell the car, or just get a gsx from a dealer and trade the 420a in. And then start from scratch and build the GSX. Is that a good Idea, cuz I really want a AWD car.
