Fans?

Okay so this may be the most newbie type question so far, but as I was adjusting my Idle RPM - I noticed that my Fans weren't on.. are they supposed to be? I checked the book and it says something about coming on when the engine begins to over heat but im not sure. I have two fans right behind the radiator and everything seems to be connected and I checked all the fuses but still nothing. So are they supposed to come on? And if so.. any ideas on how to fix this?

-- It's a 1998 Eclipse 420a (2.0L non-turbo)

RE: Fans?

I'm used to working on a '86 Jeep and when the vehicle is on, the fan is on as well. Not sure about Eclipses. I connected the fans directly to the battery and they work fine. - I'm probably making this seem more than it really is and they're probably supposed to stay off until the engine over-heats haha - I'd just like a 100% sure answer:D

i think the engine wasnt hot enough for the fans when you noticed it. if you really wanna see if they work just drive the engine kind of hard for a little bit on the road. pull over and look at em, they should be running then.

the fans arent gonna come on until the engine starts to get hot. if you leave the car idle in your driveway for a few minutes, they should eventually kick on

Okay thats what I was wondering, thanks a lot!:D -- I'm used to having it kick on right when the vehicle starts.. like my Jeep.

RE: Fans?

one will only kick on when you turn the ac on as far as i know. the other is dependent on temperature

Yep, one is a rad. fan and the other is the a/c fan...Also one precaution to take is to watch your temp. gauge while you let your engine idle to just make sure that it isn't gonna overheat.
