Default is this a good deal

as most of you know my eclipse is out ofcomission with spun bearings so my question is this
is this a good deal
600 bucks= replaced crankshaft bearings and oil pump
850 bucks= full engine rebuild
whitch one should i go with and is it a good deal
ps the mechnic guarentees his work and the prices include parts and labor
any help would be appreciated
reminder i am still new at this im only 18

Hmmm... ask him how much to just swap a motor into it.

It might be cheaper to pick up a low mileage used 4G63 and drop it in.

Other than that, yes its a good deal

full engine rebuild... is that just the bottom end or the whole thing? if it's the bottom end are we talking about just stock parts? or forged?

hey guys thanks for the info i took it into the shop and its gettin fixed right now ill have it by the end of the week the 850 price for the rebuild was without a new timing belt so they just added 50 more for the timing belt replacement so ill have a brand new ebuilt engine in my car by the end of the week and they guarente it for 6 months so im trusting there work for now thanks for the help you will probably be hearin from me in a little while with something new thanks again

Here they go with the oh we forgot to add this 50$ belt and this 40$ dollar part. But 900 to rebuild your entire motor sounds cheap. Is this replacing oil pump, water pump, etc...... Is he doing any machine work?

yes he is and hes reworking the heads reseating the piston rings everything its an entire engine rebuild and that was for a timing belt i forgot to ask him if it was included it wasnt but he said for 900 ill do the entire engine rebuild and put on a new timing belt its already there hes doing the work and he seems to be pretty good ive heard some good things about this shop hes just got some damn good prices the dealership wanted 2400 just to replace the bearings plus its guarenteed for 6 months after the works done

that sounds a little too good to be true... 1k i might see happening but 850 sounds very very cheap. if somebody shot me that quote for doing all of that work i'd DEFINATLY look over my engine once he got done... my guess if it is a rip off is that he'll find the problem w/ the motor, replace only that internal piece and call it a day... but hey, mabey you just found a sweet deal.
