GST or stock wit turbo????

Hey all...I'm lookin for a 97-98 Eclipse. I really want the GS-T or GS-X model, but they seem a bit hard to find for around 5,000. Now, i know that the turbo models are all together set up better for new parts, upgrades, etc. But since they are so hard to find i was wondering if buying a stock model and adding a turbo to it would give me the same advantage as all the turbo models. Would it run the same wit the same horses or would the GS-T and GS-X have an advantage???
p.s. how much would this cost versus a stock turbo model?

There is alot of complications to putting a turbo on a non turbo motor. Like first off you have to build up the engine internals and that cost lots of money then you have to get the turbo kit with isn't cheap. So if I where you I would just buy the turbo eclipse in the first place. Because if you take the money you spend on the turbo kit and engine mods you could get a nice gsx or gs-t.

Ya.. I agree with clipsegst.. I had a 99 GS and I looked at getting a turbo upgrade to it after I sold my Truck... I payed around 8500 for it new with 30,000 miles.. I was looking at 4,500 just to get the stage 2 turbo kit.. Which would have given it around 275 horsepower. However like he said before... The engine wouldnt be able to handle that so I would have needed to spend prolly another 3 or 4 grand building everything up to handle that horsepower and abuse... So after everything you could get a 95-99 GST for around 8 or 9 grand right now depending on the shape.. Compared to about 4 to 5 grand on a GS, but your looking at another 5-6 grand in upgrades just to get what you want... So you would be better off getting the GST in the first place.

99clips gst is exactly right... and I coulden't help to notice you said you were looking for a 97-98 eclipse. I just thought I would let you know that the 99's are the same as the 97 and 98's if you didn't know.

What changes are made? I'm sure they aren't anything to keep you from wanting a 97 or 98 over a 99. Right? I do believe that there definitely are some subtle changes made though.

I here is one thing he is running into sounds like my area a gs-t/gsx is hard to find. and the price differance is anywhere from 3-6 grand. now if you were to build the motor to be turbo ready it would cost between 1200-1500. and anywhere from 2000-3000 for a turbo kit which is almost equal to what a gs-t/gsx would cost and you have a new motor and all the upgrades people do to stock turbo motors is done compired to buying almost 2 turbo kist when buying the gs-t/gsx.

go wit a GS-T/GSX, cuz ur gonna spend a hell of a lot of money building the motor for a turbo AND the tranny since it wasnt made for so much power....juss save up n wait for the GS-T/GSX to show up, it'll be worth it especially if U got the GSX cuz of AWD lol.

you can run 300hp with no problems with the turbo if you are planing on getting more hp than that any car gs-t/gsx is going to cost alot of money.

Usually only older GSX's come up for sale..(You could get lucky) But it would be deffinately worth it to wait to get what you really want.. You might pay a little more to get what you want but just keep your eyes open [:-]
