Hi RPMs

Hi,

I just bought a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder and wanted to register it these days but when I went to SMOG check they said they could not run it because it is running on too high RPMs and indeed upon accerating from 0 to 40 it goes up to 3000 RPM. I am going to get it to service but I was wondering whether anyone knows what might be causing it so I could tell it to the service instead of trying to figure it out.

Thank you in advance and I will be looking foward to your opinions.

Regards,

Svetlin

RE: Hi RPMs

could be the timing is advanced..... also check the throttle cable, make sure it isnt too tight.........

RE: Hi RPMs

Could it be something connected with the timing belt. I just bought the car and this belt hasn't been changed yet and it is on 81K miles?

RE: Hi RPMs

not sure, but if your sure the belt has never been replaced now would be a good time to replace it and the water pump, seems like everyone says theyve never had it replaced and within about a month or two theyre back sayin the belt broke and blew the engine.......... and if the problem is the timing they can set it again when they replace the belt.... it costs a good bit of money, but its better than blowing your engine............
