How Much Boost Is Safe??
i was wondering whats the max boost i can run while keeping my stock internals safe? I have the origional 14b and i read that you can turn it up to 18 psi with 550cc injectors, which i have, and it will be fine but wondering if i can go higher...any help would be great.
P.S. buying 16g evo 3 in the winter, just wondering what will get me by for now

1. do you have a logger? how are you tuning your 550s?? if you were logging you wouldnt have to ask this question, so im assuming you arent. keep your boost as low as possible so u dont blow anything up until you figure it out. when you start logging, get your car tuned good, then just keep upping the boost until you get knock. with 550s i bet you could go to aroun 18-20psi depending on type of gas, your timing advance, temps, etc
2. 16g isnt much of an upgrade from a 14b. id go 20g if you like old school or 50trim for a next turbo.

you really need to order one of these and start using it when you get bigger injectors. Dyno tuning your car is fine and all, but any changes you make to your car after that and you need to retune it again. also, dyno tuning isnt going to help much with only a maft because it cant make fine adjustments like an SAFC or dsmlink. Not to mention air temps can also change how your car runs. get a logger and you can tune yourself anytime.
You dont need to worry about stressing your internals, you could run 25+psi on stock internals with a 16g as long as you had enough fuel (bigger injectors and/or race gas) With 550's you should be fine to 18-20psi before your car starts knocking. also, EGTs are useless, they dont tell you anything except that timing is getting pulled, but doesnt tell you by how much. Timing gets pulled when your car is knocking, and if you had a logger it would tell you exactly what your timing was. My advice would be to buy the logger and read up about it instead of going to the dyno. Itl be money better spent.

One thing to keep in mind that many people overlook is your elevation. I personally live in denver which varries from 5100ft to 6100 (the track). I forget the equation but you can look it up online, but at my elevation i can safely push 2psi more then sea level due to less atmosphere.
