Hi guys, hope you can help - have just bought a 1998 Eclipse which has been modified (new engine, spoiler, rims e.t.c). I had someone tell me the other day that it's in fact NOT a '98 because the reverse lights are next to the number plate, and are not the little round ones on the bumper.

As you can probably tell I'm a total amateur, but thought maybe one of you eclipse enthusiasts could explain to me why my reverse lights are different - is it a '98 model? Has it just been customised? Very confused...Pics are here - let me know what you think!

to me it dosent look like it. if you really want to be sure on what it is, you can get ur vin # and run it on carfax.com and see what it comes up with it might just turn out that the old owner just like the older styled look. dont pay for the car fax just let it see what it comes up with

 

he just swapped the bumper... i can almost guess that is the case, since the headlights and bumper on the front fit the 97-99... you can also look inside your door jam i believe it should have the manufacture date. but imo... he just put the older bumper on there to make it look even stupider then the wing.. lol.. maybe he got in a an accident and had to replace it and all he could find was that one.. or he just liked the looks of that bumper better?

i would check the door jam tho and a carfax report it won't come up with the report, just year make and model of the car.. when you run the vin on their site for free... cuz he could have swapped the front bumper and lights...

 

Lol yeah I know the wing is big...but I live in the Middle East and that's what they like over here...just want to buy it (very cheap) to sell at a profit so... I'll try the VIN thing, hopefully it works outside the US?! He had it imported here from Japan so I guess they must have changed the bumper..so frustrating!

 

Ok apparently husband did check it out and the previous owner altered the rear as you guessed...he's happy with it so there we go!

on the door jam theres also a sticker for the manufactured date... but those reverse lights and headlamps are deffinitely 95

are they? i dont see the lil bump thingy on them haha... i see them 2 short... but who knows... it still has been modified... so vin or jam info sheet needs to be checked

 

yeah 97-99 headlights they come to a point when they go towards the middle.
