Well maybe he tried to explain it wrong and it actually is the head gasket.

If its pouring out white smoke than its going to be the headgasket.

 

steam is not white smoke

 

Tell him to check under the oil cap and see if there is any white foam, if so then its the headgasket.

 

the first one has alot of mods done that im sure you were already planning on doing yourself so thats gonna save you money from havin to buy them all but i would see if the owner of the second one would come down on the price because that first one has definately had the hell ran out of it and the second one is just way cleaner and guarantee its gonna be more reliable thats just my $0.02 though
