Just bought '95 Eclipse, motor shot
Just bought a '95 Eclipse and shelled the motor(threw a rod) the same day. It has the 2.0 non-turbo in it now with a 5 speed tranny. I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money just yet, but want to build this car in the near future. Just wanting to use it for cruising around town and maybe puttin' a beatin' on the local camaro's and mustang's. Don't want to lose too much of the fuel mileage. Now that I have to buy a motor, what should I buy to modify later on? How hard is it to upgrade this car to the 2.0 turbo? Is that the right move? Any ideas where to look for a cheap motor or the pieces to build a motor? Also, I want to start lookin' for rims, what are the biggest rims I can put on the car without too much trouble?

RE: Just bought '95 Eclipse, motor shot
for rims i wouldnt go any bigger than 18's. And for the motor. Stick with the non turbo engine and built up the internals with pistons and rods. Then turbocharge it. Thats really the only way you can go with it

Check out Hahns racing, they do a lot of work on the non turbo 2.0. They have everything you need, connecting rods, pistons, and the turbo kit.

RE: Just bought '95 Eclipse, motor shot
shop around for pistons and rods... you can find better dreals than HAHN, yes, they are a great comany for the 420a (non turbo 2.0l engine in 95-99 eclipse) but they are also pretty expensive. right now Concept Illusions is selling a set of oversized .020 Weisico Pistons and Eagle rods for 600 bucks (heck of a deal). for the motor... you can look in local junk yards or ebay. really the only thing you need to do to the motor is replace the bottom end with some forged internals and ur good up to about 20psi on a turbo or a 125-150 shot of nitrous.

Any who you wont beat any mustangs with out at least a stage two turbo kit, and deff no ls1/lt1's with out a built motor and a big 16g or a 20g... with a different fuel system.... and spark controler.... lets just say alot of money. |
