Master Cylinder Problem
 

Last weekend my car's clutch stuck to the floor when I pulled into a gas station. Got it towed back to my mechanic's, and it was the master cylinder. I got the car back and everything was good for a day, then it starts doing the same thing....the clutch comes out really slow if it comes out at all, almost impossible to get the thing in gear. I was wondering, I talked to an ex-mechanic while my car was being fixed, he said to change out the slave cylinder with the master cylinder, any truth to this? I've already got $400 into the new master cylinder for it to work for a day and take a crap on me. I don't know, maybe my mechanic knew that and is just milking me for money.What do you guys think?

That's usually the case. If you change one, change the other. It's a good rule of thumb.

you payed 400 bucks for the master cylinder?!?! i got mine for under 100 and even if the shop charges 100/hr, it still was only like a half hour job.. but anyway ya you should change them both out and after you do MAKE SURE YOU BLEED THE SYSTEM

The estimate was $200 but I guess he had a problem with it. I'm not happy about it. Now would the new master cylinder be screwed now? or do you think I just need a new slave cylinder?

The master should be fine, unless the slave was in really bad shape to the point that the master really had to work to even get a days worth of work.

If you have confidence do it yourself, but yes its a good idea to change em both at once. Did he change both? If one goes bad it puts a lot of stress onthe other but if both were replaced he may not have bled the system well enough.
