Here's what I see...
Boost creep. The E316G is known for it at low boost settings. If you've got the stock wastegate door, you should have opted for the 34mm flapper upgrade. There's a few things you can do to remedy this, one is to port the wastegate opening on the turbo side, another is to go with an external wastegate, another is to get the 34mm flapper.
Again, boost creep and the E316G are synonymous, especially at low/stock boost without the upgraded flapper.
Upgrading the boost controller to an MBC isn't the fix for boost creep.
Oh yeah, where did you hear that an MBC is bad? That is very wrong. It's the most simple boost controller out there...no wires, just 2 rubber tubes to connect.

Mitsubishi 34mm Flapper This is a great modification for you guys with a 3" downpipe. This allows excessive boost pressure to be released easier through the WG passage. This is often referred to as "boost creep". If you are running 20 plus psi all the time, no need for this mod. Option only availible when purchasing one of our Mitsubishi Turbos.
http://www.boneheadperformance.com/dsm/dsmturbo.htmYou can also look on Tuners and Talk. Just type in boost creep and the E316G threads will pop up.It's not unusual, but definitely not good.Thinking about this again, here's a "now" solution for you.Get an MBC and turn the boost down until you are able to get the wastegate ported and can get the 34mm flapper installed. When I say turn down the boost, I mean to turn it down so that you're creeping up to stock pressures of 12-15psi. Seriously or you will pay more in the end for a rebuild for a not spending an extra hundred bucks or so.
