Default 4wd IRS

Hi, I am new to the Mitsubishi world...I build Rat motorcyles...I have aquired the IRS suspension form
a 4wd Pickup....I am handicapped and need to ride a 3 wheeled motorcycle...my question is...I want to use a small block Chevy 6cyl and xmission, and tie it into my newly aquired rear end....will the differential and axles be strong enough to be powered by the Chevy motor...???
Any comments would be greately appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry

Your best bet for a mitsu rear end that can withstand all the torque is a 95-99 eclipse AWD. They can hold up to about 500lbs if properly taken care of. The 3000gtVR4 rear might seem like a logical choice, but sincethe 94-99uses a getrag tranny the center diff and driveshafts may be a little different. But there are currently 4 racers who still use the mitsu eclipse stock rear end and make a little over 500hp. Actually one of them is making 609hp, so the mitsu rear end can handle it. But if you want the absolute best that money can buy from mitsu, get an evo rear end. All their evo drivetrain parts are made with extra beef for the trials in rally racing.

Well John Sheppard runs the stock rear and he traps 167 so they will hold up but you cat be dumb about it. If you are launching hard and the tires hook it will break. Other that that you should be ok, but I personally would look around and see if you can find something a bit stronger. You have to remember that our cars power is ditributed to all the wheels. With that in mind all the power and torque shoudl be halfed. If a car makes 300 lb/ft then only 150 or so is going to the rear.

That's true, so you would only need to wrry about finding a center diff capable of directing all that torque.

If he is putting it in a bike then he wont need a center diff and that was my point. These rearends dont take alot of torque in our cars becasue ti is split. Take that split out and you know have a problem. A 4.3 V6 makes a decent amount of torque and will put a good hurtin' on that rear.

OHHH....i missed the part where he said he's making a bike. my bad. After re-reading his post, i realize that i'm goin in the wrong direction. The reliabilty of his rear-end....well actually i've never seen or worked on one like his, so i dunno. Just disregard whatever i said in the first posts.
