Can anyone recommend a performance chip for a 1998 Eclipse? Any shops in the central Jersey area that anyone knows of?

chips are over-rated.. so many people talk mad s**t about their car "I gotta stage 3 chip in my ..whatever they drive.." and think they are got a 300hp car because of that and a fart can. listen to spyder and reprogram. lets just say you are buying a chip.. what do they cost? 2, $300+ ? save a little longer and get a bigger turbo, port your exhaust mani/O2 housing, intake mani... blah blah. more gain for your buck. also, if you don't have max. flow throughout your exhaust... whats the point of buying anything else?

I have a 98 eclipse spyder and I have been looking around for some pretty nexpensive mods for my car besides the air filter kit. Since it has the 2.4 engine mods seem to be pointless unless you can afford to do a few of them. If you do one thing then you must do another thing and so on. Ive been told by some mechanic friends who build custom exhaust, etc.. thatHypertech chips and programmers would be a good way to get a pretty decent performance boost while only spending a few hundred. Whether they work I dont know but I dont see why they would tell me this, they sure arent benefitting from it,cause they could make money. Im not sure where you can buy them but you can look on Hypertechs site. Ive heard dont buy a used one because once plugged into one car they wont work on any other. Still Im def. interested to see for my self.

Anyone ever heard of the Turbonater? I think thats what its called. It sells for like 69.95 on the net and supposedly boosts HP up to 30 and has a lifetime gaurantee. DollFace

are you talking about one of those electric super/turbo chargers? there are many of those on the market and I have yet to hear from anyone who has purchased and used. I don't see why they wouldn't work. some of the more expensive ones I have actually seen on TV. ...compact car on TNT sunday morning... I think thats the show... anyways, it was like $150 and flowed something lik3 660 p/sec. thats pretty kick *** for an electric "blower" I've heard it adds all the way up to 50hp (not sure if thats to the crank or wheels.. prob crank) but if so.. great and inexpensive "BOOST" alternative for all you N/A engines

I just got a performance chip for my eclipse from a company called powertune. I was not expecting much when I bought it and it's just ok, no crazy increase in HP but it does give it more pep. If you want a little more kick then I'd recommend it but don't expect to gain a ton of hp. The company also put together reviews on their site from customers. Some just talking about it and some doing 0-60 tests with and without it. powertune performance chip
