RE: Radio fuse

could be... try sucuring your ground and give it another fuse if thats not i you might have a power wire shorting something out......

RE: Radio fuse

kk thx. i just wired a sub about 2 weeks ago, but i used 4 gauge wire and ran it directly to the battery. i don think this should effect the fuse though, it has its own on the 4 gauge. i dont know if this will help either but it doesnt hurt, but my speakers are as follows:

receiver: JVC kd-g400
front: pioneer 4-way 6"
rear: sony 3-way 6"x9"
sub: kenwood 10" w/ kenwood amp

RE: Radio fuse

what you have dosent help its the way you wired it

If you cross the terminals of a batt. the wire gets super hot, and starts to melt. A fuse works off this. The piece of metal inside the fuse will burn up at a certian temp, temps rise as amphers increase, ampers increase when you touch a hot with a ground. A bad ground wont blow the fuse but a crossed wire will.... you have a crossed wire

RE: Radio fuse

the radio and speakers were professionally installed, i wired the sub myself.

heres what i learned last night:

-the fuse behind the receiver still hasnt blown, just the one under the hood.
-the fuse only blows when i start the engine, not when i turn the key and dont start the engine.
-i still have power to the receiver, enough to insert and eject a cd, but no led's come on the faceplate.
-a 15amp fuse still blows (180 watts, the receiver can handle 200)

is there a good chance that the receiver itself is gone and i need a new one?
thanks for the help guys

RE: Radio fuse

That's a possibility... But the fact that it doesn't blow the fuse until you attempt to start is kinda weird... Try a different reciever see what happens.

RE: Radio fuse

I am lost, the fues that blows is under your hood? Why do you have a power wire under the hood for the radio? I hooked my power up directly from the old harness in the dash.

RE: Radio fuse

There ARE some fuses under the hood but I'm not sure it's a radio fuse under there that he's blowing... So there MUST be another problem somewhere...

Ya i didnt think that sounded right but he mentioned that the led lights on the headunit dont come on. I think that he amy have a short somewhere from the amp install.... WE NEED PICS for this one.

RE: Radio fuse

ok so between the fuse box and the headunit you have a short because the sterio has a mosfet power unit which means its own surge protection the head unit is getting no power or the fuses on it would blow as well follow the wires from the fuse to the head unit you will find the problem.
