So I just bought my 98 eclipse and i was driving down the highway when instead of putting it in 4th gear i accidentally dropped in 2nd, it redline close to 7800 rpm and now it feels like i have no power steering and my check battery light is coming on, with exception of these two problems the car is running strong and shifts smoothly. What could i have don to mess up my power steering and battery?

 

You messed up the powersteering pump, maybe the alternator too.
