Default safc! :(

i just installed my afc according to the 2g directions on vfaq, except the misleading info about the maf sensor wires (tells wrong colors). and the "ECU pinouts for 2G turbos" on vfaq also. but my afc isnt working properly, the lights on the buttons come on but they are very dim, and the screen wont come on at all. i quadrouple checked all of the wires and they are all good, including the two grounds and i know that the brown is supposed to be closer than the black which it was. it is installed perfectly i checked all connections and it just wont come on. is there anything i can do to check and see if it is broken because this was bought used from ebay and if it is then i can send it back i think...

Do you have a dvom? Check to see what kind of voltage your getting at the power wire.

oh two more questions, 1. do i have to use the power from the computer or can i run a wire from the battery through a fuse, if so, what size wire/fuse. 2. why does the black ground have to be farther from the brown ground? isnt a ground a ground? it just doesnt make much sense to me that one would have to be farther from the other

I used the red power wire going to the ecu. The ground thing I have no idea lol.

The two grounds are offset because of the flow characteristics of electrons. Electrons actually flow from the negative terminal of the battery to the positive terminal, due to their electric charge. With one ground being offset from the other, depending on the direction of the flow of electrons, one ground gets electrons first, most likely to power the unit, and then the other gets electrons second, possibly to amplify the signal to the computer. Electron flow is very fast (don't feel like looking up its actual speed right now), so within our understanding of time, the grounds gain electrons almost instaneously. I hope that helps. Have a good one
