Default shifter

i have had my eclipse for about 6 months now and since the first day i got the car i always thought the shifter was abnormaly (spelling??) tall. i don't know if its just me or not, what about you guys??

anyways, i want to make it shorter somehow. i know the short throw shifter would make it shorter. but my friend had a different way to make it shorter. instead of just getting a short throw he said that i could just take out the center consle. then to just unscrew or unbolt a couple of parts to the original shifter. then rebolt or screw it back to make it shorter, taking out some piece, if that makes any sence.

would that work??? or would it be better to get a short throw shifter. i'm not really looking for performance out of it, but instead a better feeling of the ride. is there any other way to get the shifter to be shorter?

A short throw shifter is your best option. You could take off the stock shifting rod and cut the middle out and weld the two ends back together, that gives the simulated look of a short shifter but is ghetto in my opinion.

well i've got a b&m shifter and it didnt make it a whole lot shorter in height, just in the shift... what i'd do if u wanna make it shorter is get a short shifter, then take it to a machine shop, and have them "mill" it down then thread the time

cutting the stock shifter and welding it back together will make it shorter but wil also make it a lot harder and rougher to shift. get a short shifter, it's not shorter in height only shorter in throw.
