simple question

what are the pros and cons between using a :

38mm internal wastgate to a seperate dump tube
AND
38mm external wastegate to a seperate dump tube???

thanks for the help!!

RE: simple question

i dont think you can do an internal wastegate to a separate dump tube. The internal routes back into the exhaust through the o2 housing.

Now between an internal and external it would depend on how much boost you plan on running because an internal can only take so much, and support only so much power. Also external will help prevent boost creep since it can flow more air, and also are more adjustable since an internal works of an actuator. Also the external works more efficiently for the turbo keeping the air out of the turbo.

RE: simple question

you can do an internal to a seperate tube that doesnt go back into the exhaust, slowboy racing has them for about 330$...that is why i am asking, . and i am looking to run between 18-20psi max for now... but, i eventually wanna be pushing around 400HP i pretty much know what i will need to get that...and i know the setup i want should be able to support it pretty easily.

RE: simple question

go with an external wastegate then. And what is the purpose of running the internal through a separate tube. Seems like a waste of money to me

RE: simple question

it is said to prevent boost creep even more... here is a link to it....

it is pretty sweet...

RE: simple question

I dont see getting much of a gain out of it, besides the sound of open wastegate. Honestly i think the money could be better spent with an external gate system

RE: simple question

thanks for the input, i guess next i should ask.... do you think that a 38mm wastegate (external) would be sufficient?

RE: simple question

should be for what your looking to run. Tial is the best brand for that as well

RE: simple question

I guess the first question should be about the turbo.
The biggest reason for an external dump is what you already know...boost creep. That's one way to help keep it from happening. The other way is to get a larger o2 housing and larger exhaust piping. That's another reason why folks get the EVO3 o2 housing. It's larger than the 2g in both size and inner piping diameter. If you have a large turbo an external is beneficial because they can help keep boost pressure in (which is what you would want) where an external will/may have a weak gate with a larger turbo because OF the exhaust pressures, thus not holding the boost due to pressures pushing the weaker wastegate flapper.
An external dump allows for the gases to escape faster, thus no boost creaping. That's also the reason for having a 34mm flapper for an E316G.
Boost creep isn't removed by using an external wastegate or an external dump, it's removed by allowing more gas flow away from the exhaust wheel. Refer to the comments above because this just goes in a circle, lol.
