Well, my car has always done that... but it's barely noticable on mine. If it's billowing out bad, then yeah, ya might have a blown gasket, or scarred cylinder walls.

blown gaskets and cillander wall are all huge problems. i think that your valve guides are going out. they start to leak then bam you get the smoke and it only dose it alot when u start it dose it some when u drive around. a new head is the bet thing to put on in this case. and it is cheep just 500 bucks compared to resleaving the block.

Hi,
Here's a little hint. White smoke, coolant is getting into combustion chamber. Blue smoke, burning oil either thru worn rings or oil leaking past valve seals. Black smoke, engine running too rich. If you have identified smoke as white, chances are you have a blown head gasket, cracked head, or crack in the cylinder wall.

Dude it may be your turbo, I have a 95 GST and it does the same thing. Something to do with the seals in turbo going bad and oil getting into the compressor housing or something like that, to check you can take off the inntercooler piping and if excess oil is in there thats prolly your problem, if not it may be your rings or valve seals.
