how will a 17" rim with 205/55 work on an eclipse. to big, what is the best size to run for good accel and top end.

i tb spacer allows for a bit more velocity of the air entering the engine. the opinion of whether or not a spacer does any good varies from person to person.

what year eclipse? and what is your current tire size? my car is the same chassis and such as an 01+ eclipse, and i have 215-50-17..

i used to had 205-40-17, but they were a bit rough on the ride of my liking...

a taller tire will hurt your acceleration, yet help your top end, if youre gearbound, which you very likely are not.

the smaller tire will help your begining accelleration but the bigger tire will get more speed out of each gear also will have a better top end i didnt know eclpise came with a 14" tire mine is 16" stock. i have been told that 18" is the max you should go.

you current tires are 7.68 in width and 24.75 in total height, not accounting for the weight of the vehicle.

the tires that you are considering are 8.46 in width and 23.77 in total height.

the lower tire will account for a bit more acceleration.

i am not certain if a 215 will fit, but i cant say for sure...i would look into a 205 40 17....yokohama makes some great tires, the parada spec2 in that size, which is what i had..excellent traction, but they wear fast.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
195/70-14 5.4in 12.4in 24.7in 77.7in 815 0.0%
that is stock
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/40-17 3.2in 11.7in 23.5in 73.7in 860 0.0%
here is tha aftermarket

the aftermarket will get u acceleration and the bottom end but the bigger ones will give u a better top end.

"better top end" only applies to cars that are gearbound by low pro tires...for instance, my track car, has a 3 speed tranny, with a manual valve body, and 4.10 gears..it is built for the dragstrip, and it tops out around 120mph. and i am at redline, but if i took my race tires off, and put my street tires on, that are taller, my final drive is reduced, and the top speed increases...

consider this eclipses redlie @ 7000 Rpm ok after about 3-4k i beleve the smaller tires make no differance for the fact that a taller tire is going to move faster after that point in time in every gear what i am trying to say is after the lower end of the motor has produced the torqe to get you off the line and you now are counting on the horsepower to turn that tire top end a bigger tire will make the car a little faster. the prime example for this concept is Top Fuel Dragsters funnycars evan race bikes.
