Default Tire Size?

Well guys, I sold my chrome 16" rims. My ride is a '99 Eclipse GS-T...I have a set of 18 inch wheels now (18x7.5)..Would I be safe running a 205/40/18 tire on these wheels? Is that tire size going to fit on the wheel? And am I going to have enough clearance for the tires without them rubbing on anything if I drop my car 1" or 1 1/2" or even if I don't lower it at all? Has anyone here put 18's on their 2nd Gen. Eclipse? What do you all suggest?

I need suggestions soon please! I need to get tires within the next couple of weeks..I put my factory wheels back on for right now for the time being until I get tires but they look like **** on that car now! Thanks guys!

If they are anything similar to the 3g than probably. I have 225/40/18 dropped 1.5 and it there are no problems. But, you may want to wait till someone with a 2g offers some advice.

OK...so I called Discount Tire and the guy I talked to said that a 205/40/18 tire was too small and suggested I go with a 215/40/18 for my car..He said I would even be OK with running a 225/40/18 but the thing with that is that my friend who had a lowered '97 Spyder GS-T with 225's said they rubbed..I told the guy on the phone that and he said there it wasn't possible for it to rub but I saw it with my own eyes...I'm just scared about spending $500 on tires and getting too big of a tire and it rubbing on stuff..Plus I'm gonna lower my ride about an inch or inch and a half..So was the sales rep. I talked to on the phone right with his suggestion of at least a 215/40/18 and not having any rubbing?
