transmission fluid?

This is my first post so I hope i can get some help. I bought my daughter a 99 eclipse and was going to change the transmission fluid and filter. In the owners manual it says to use the diamond brand fluid but only the dealer sells this. I am sure there is some aftermarket fluid that will work but do not know what kind. I need to know what fluid I can use and also what amount I will need to do this if I just drop the pan. Thanks for any assistance.

when all else fails I break down and go to mitsu. but I have a friend there, so I don't get bent over.. I'm pretty sure that tranny fluid is tranny fluid, but hey, I've never changed my own before so Im not sure.. I'll get back to you on this unless someone smarter that I gets there first.

Tranny fluid is not just tranny fluid... but nowadays you can normally get by with regular tranny fluid. Just look in your manual and it will tell you. Most cars today use Regular tranny fluid, but some high ends and lots of older (talkin late eighties and early ninetys) use detergent type fluid. But your manual will say very specifically what kind you need.

Diamond X fluid

Just to finish this post....

I needed the Diamond fluid for my 01 spyder and there are no mitsu dealers in my city so I was refered to a Dogde dealership and they carry it.

Expense cost about $12 U.S. quart. ouch
cheers

AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! GM SYNCROMESH!!!!!!!!!!!

C'mon, all you long time DSM'ers *know* that stuff is the best, right? Well, for manual transmissions it's the best. For auto's, Redline and BG are the top two choices.
