The CV joint is covered by a black boot behind your rotor. Its not too difficult to replace. But what it does is keep constant velocity (CV) to the wheels from the driveshaft no matter how your turning.

Its possible the boot is cracked, leaking out all the grease and causing the CV to wear

well sebba thats most likely what happened but not he has to replace the joint at this point. There is no point in trying to only replace the boot

wow that sounds bad. why in the hell would that happen though? Where can I get a good aftermarket or should I just stick with the facotry? So when i buy the joint does it come with the boot to? SHOULD I JUST LOWER MY CAR WHILE IM AT IT?

Mine did the same thing last week but on my driver side. I was told it was the Driver side axle. I figured they meant cv joint though. I cost me about 140 for parts and labor to have it fixed.

I think the recall is just the ball joint, not the cv joint.
