V6 in a 2nd gen?

V6 in a 2nd gen?
ok, so i've read alot of debate on the 420a. overall its a solid motor for daily driving, but pretty much not an option when it comes to big power. (well, it is but not very logical). i don't want to get rid of my car (i bought it used and still owe on it so i can't just sell it and buy a turbo car), but i want to make some power. i was wondering if anyone has swapped the v6 from the 3rd or 4th gen eclipse into a 2nd gen? i'm not looking to make disgusting horsepower or drag race, i'm much more a track ***** (i live 15 min away from willow springs raceway in rosamond CA). so any thoughts? also, i like the fact that i'll have torque with the v6 and still be NA.

RE: V6 in a 2nd gen?
I've only seen the 2.5L 6g73 swapped into a 2G and I can promise you that it didn't make it any faster or have a significant amount of torque.
The deck height will also be an issue. The 2.5L was built to fit our deck height. 3.0L swaps are done a lot in the Avenger/Sebring communities, but you have to swap parts of the 3.0L with the 2.5L to allow it to fit. In essence, you'll be swapping two motors in. That and you'll also have to fab a motor mount.
You're better off buying a turbo kit and putthing that in over the V6.

ok, so deck hieght is an issue. will the 3.0 fit at all? and either way 420a to 4g63 swap isn't even viable. i've had 2 dsm tuners already tell me that the engine bay is all wrong for it so there's no point. i was just wondering about the 3.0 because i have access to a totaled 3rd gen (rear ended so bad the tail lights are sitting where the front seat head rests should be) and i have access to just about all the parts i would need.

RE: V6 in a 2nd gen?
First off, a 1G and 2G came with 4g63s. Who told you that the engine bay of a 2G was all wrong to swap in a DSM 4g63?I won't say that the EVO 4-9 4g63 won't fit either since I've seen two 2Gs with that motor in them online. Regardless, the 6g72 is just pointless to install.
There's a reason there was only one 2G with a V6 swapped in and then sold.
In the end, it's all up to you. I would advise against it since you're not really stepping into a motor with huge aftermarket support as your 420a has.

well, "the engine bay is all wrong for a 4g63" was the quote i got from RRE (road/race engineering) when i approached them with the idea of swapping out my 420a. i figured if anyone could do it they would be able to, but if its easier to do than i was thinking, can someone point me in the direction of a writeup on the 4g63 swap? i'm not looking for massive power, just a solid fwd daily driver with more power than my current 420a.

RE: V6 in a 2nd gen?
what you mean is the engine bay is 4 inches smaller but will still fit....very tight fit. its pointless to do any engine swap on a eclipse....too much money and you might as well just buy a turbo 1 or 2g.

RE: V6 in a 2nd gen?
^^ There's an option right there.
If you're looking for more solid power from your Eclipse and your 420a is running good with it's maintenance up to par, then turbo it.
Don't listen to these guys who are telling you that the 420a is weak even with a turbo.
Yes, it is weak compared to a 4g63 motor'd Eclipse, but it sounds to me that you're not looking for a weekend warrior at the tracks more so a car with just more pep and go. Even with 200hp to the wheels, it'll feel a lot better than ~113whp.
If you can except the fact that it will take more money to add power to your motor, then go for it. Add a turbo to it and it's supporting mod, but don't expect it to rule the roads.
If you're set on doing a swap, for god's sake, don't swap in a V6. You'll be just as disappointed as you are with your stock 420a.
Those guys at RRE aren't stupid, they just know that it will take more time than they want to spend on a vehicle when there's another option to swapping and that's just outright buying the same car with the higher output motor.
That is by far the most rediculous thing I've ever heard about the Eclipse and that swap...as long as the motor is from the 1G/2G Eclipse/Talon/Laser and not the EVO 4-9. That is still unclear according to all your posts in this thread. If you asked about the EVO's 4g63, then yes, the Eclipse's engine bay really isn't made for that motor. Not just fitment but every other supporting aspect. Not that it can't be done nor that it hasn't been done.
RRE knows that the engine bays between the Eclipses and Talons are the same.
