Wondering about the gsx

Hi right now i drive a somewhat modified1988 Honda CR-X, i really love this car but i'd love something with more speed AWD or RWD and able to seat atleast 4 people, right now i'm thinking about a 240SX, 300ZX, Supra, or an Eclipse GSX.

The GSX sounds great seeing as its turbocharged, has AWD, and looks fantastic, I'm wondering what the normal price for one of these babies are and what seems to be the most comon problems, and common mods. Also just opinions on speed and handling and what not.

So if you would be kinda enough respond and give me some feedback.

Thanks in advance.

as for common mods.. id have to say, a 20g turbo, or t3/t4, victory front mount intercooler, a fuel pump, big injectors, a blow off valve, a 3" intake, 3" downpipe, a new turbo manifold with an external waste gate.. that's the formula for DSM's that's been written down long time ago. hope that helped out.

well if ur looking for problems the 2g GSX would be the place to start...

the biggest problem with the 2g's are the dreaded 'crank walk' problems

tranies and transfer cases always go out

but if ur looking for a GSX a 1g is always the best way to go

95-99 is 2nd. you got 1st right though. as far as pricing goes... good luck with a 2nd gen cause for some odd reason people like driving the hell out of these cars and trying to sell them for over $10,000 I got lucky with my '97 gsx and took the guy for 11,200 with around 53,000 on it. but you are lookin bout the same price for lots more miles.

probs... yes, already replaced the tranny. 1st and 2nd forks ruined, clutch burned to the point of no more "go" I had to get towed. haven't experienced crank walk yet, but since I've owned it I've only driven for about 3 months, otherwise its garaged and being worked on. other problems I have encountered.. coolant leek> replace water pump and timing belt while you're at it, fixed.. get a timer, boost controler and gauge>this will save your turbo, only other problem is that it doesn't turn very tight. ie. U-Turn drifts well though.

if I miss anything, help me out

oh and I almost forgot, if you get a new BOV, get new pipes too, that rubber/plastic S**T sucks. and its very difficult to keep your BOV from BLOWING THE HELL OFF.

dong get 1st gen there ugly as hell, you should look into a gs-t they may not be as fast off the line but they will beat a gsx stock

this is true... stock a GS-T will beat a GSX On the highway. they both have equal power, but the gsx is awd so it will kick the gst's ass with an awesome launch. the only way the gst will catch up is in a long run, and only for the fact that it is lighter. otherwise, you will nearly always have bad launches because of tork-steer. "remember the first race in fast and furious? the eclipse had the worst launch i've ever seen. That is what you will run into.

also, yeah, Im not a fan of the 1st gen either, looks wise, but stock-stock say a 93 gsx vs 98gsx. the 93 will win hands down. they are lighter and they have better internals. quicker throttle response, and a bigger turbo. if you are going for the races, 1st gen. For looks, def 2nd gen

2g tranny's were rather stout from what i've seen. They may go through clutch quickly, but they don't break too much. The t-case breaks and causes the tranny f up sometimes, but they're an upgrade to the 1g definitely. They shift better and are rather strong. Only worry about the transfer case, the rest is pretty much strong enough for about 500hp. The tranny is good till about 450hp. And who needs that much power anyways? Besides us dsm guys?
