Default Wont Start!!

hey wats up, i got a 97 eclipse GS some of you might remember me asking about bent valves a while back. Anyways i got it all fixed atleast i thought. No need to change the valves just timing belt, water pump. so i did it and as i tried to get it started it woudnt start. So i decided to take everything off and i thought it might of been out of time. I redo everything make sure its timed right, its a bitch to time right, any ways i got it right and it still woudnt start. But then i decided to give it alittle gas and after a while it started up as long as i kept pushin down the gas it stayed started as soon as i left it alone it woud turn off. The car smelled like gas when it was started. what do you guys think it is? Any help apreciated THNKS

Well this may be a bit of a no brainer but it sounds to me like a gas leak. Did you mes with any fuel lines when changing the belt and pump? If you have to keep it at WOT to keep it running and the car smells like gas then I'd say that only enough to run the engine is getting to the engine at WOT and you need to find the leak in the gas line.

I'd suggest going to the back of your engine bay and finding where the gas lines come into the bay and start looking there. Follow the lines to the engine, check the fuel rail and the injectors, check the intake for any loose or disconnected lines.

I mulled it over and talked to the guys at the shop (One worked at a Mitsu dealer). They said it's probably timing off by 1 tooth OR when the valvetrain was redone that the valves weren't seated right. So check those if you can't find a fuel leak.

i had low compression in one of my pistons found out the dumbass that owned it before me striped the #2 sparkplug threads and put a helicoil to re thread it and put it in too far the piston came up smaked it and than bent the valves in that #2 chamber. my macinest told me this when he riped the motor i took to him apart and now it is getting rebuilt .25 over it will be alot better and it is only costing $1300 check local macinest they might be able to do some good upgrades for cheep.
