Yes another new topic from me
Hey, first off I'm bored and killing time so please excuse the numerous posts. I've just been looking at anything and everything for my car and I was wondering how much of a differance a front mount intercooler can actually make on a mild to modestly modded turbo car. It's not something I have any plans of doing, it's more out of curiousity and trying to get a better understanding of the options for these cars.

If you have a stock turbo it'll be a big waste of money.

That's what I figured, the only time I'd actually look at one to get would be after I'd replaced the turbo with a bigger one and done some serious work. That certainly won't be happening any time in the near future. I'm just bored[8D]

ORIGINAL: nate5023 If you have a stock turbo it'll be a big waste of money. Again, negative. I have SEEN a stock turbo with all the other mods (Exhaust, MBC, and Gauge) make more HP with a FMIC (GReddy 24row) over the SMIC. It was a difference of 17whp. Which was about 25hp all together. I can find the graph, but it is out there. Plus you can use it with your new larger turbo in the future. |

yea im going to have to go with midnight on this one, i wonder why cooler and better airflow would be a waste of money. you will have a noticeable h/p increase with a front mount

The deal that most people "hear" is pressure drop. Well, it is not that significant with the T25. The turbo will make more power even if it is not 14b capable. It is given the boot pretty quick, but some people have gone 13's with it. Properly supported a T25 will go 13's. High 13's but still. |

Midnght's about right.....an FMIC can make a difference on the stock turbo, but that's usually when the turbo is at it's max effiency range. Pretty much when you push a turbocharger beyond it effiency range, it starts to heat up the pressurized air to a point where the heat is affecting the density of the charged air. Add heat to pressurized gas and it expands, which in most ways would negate the effect of pressurizing it int he first place. However, the FMIC can only do so much to relieve the heat, as midnght pointed out only 17+hp. And even then it's a very dangerous situation, with the turbo going beyond it's intended level of use and becoming hotter when you crank the boost up. Making a T25 go beyond about 270hp is big trouble waiting to happen.

It wouldnt be a waste at all if you have a boost controller! Thats would work awesome together!

If the engine's fairly stock then I wonder what you'd see, only thing that sucks is they're like at least 800 bucks for a setup, ones I've seen always.
