Default 01 eclipse gt misfire

I'm basically looking for a second opinion on the problem I'm having with my 01 gt. The car has had a misfire for a few months now, it is showing codes for a random multiple misfire and for an egr solenoid. With that being said, the plugs had seen better days and while I was at it I threw on a set of wires as well. The misfire is so severe that the entire car will buck back and fourth under almost any load, and if you completely stomp the gas and hold it from a stop it will do absolutely nothing for sometimes 2-3 seconds. After that it picks up and actually has good power throughout the rpm range, but beyond that the misfire is almost unbearable. As I said, I'm trying to get a second opinion on it before I sink more money into a distributor and coil (I have been told they are a single unit) also the car has a new cap and rotor.
Thanks in advance

Switch the coil packs, and do a compression test to see if the cylinder is dead.

I have called and looked around some myself and the coil seems to be available only with the entire distributor. Given I can find one, does the distributor have to come out to replace the coil? It seems accessible with the intake tube off

I don't know, I've never owned a 3g. Should be able to tell by looking.
