2000 Eclipse, car vibrates when stopped in drive.
Hi all, I have a 2000 Eclipse that I recently purchased and have done a lot of work to already. My biggest problem now is when at a stoplight and in drive the car vibrates. It is a 2.4 cyl auto, 127,xxx miles. I did have a misfire in cylinder 4, bad coil, replaced, new plugs and wires also. When I accelerate the vibration goes away, it also goes away if I shift to neutral. It is idling 800-900 rpm when problem occurs. Not sure where to start. If I'm leaving out anything that may help pinpoint let me know I'll answer the best I can. Thanks in advance for the help.

Sounds like still have a misfire......check engine light on?

engine mounts or clutch chatter.

run a compression check. a low cylinder can do that. maybe a burnt valve.

Akzle, you're right. Engine mount.

One thing to look into is if the timing belt was changed and the oil gear timing mark is 180' out.
It is very easy to make this mistake. The down side is that you will have to remove the belt to check it out. The timing mark should spin back to the other timing mark when you move it away slightly in either direction. If you turn it away from the mark and it moves further away, then it is 180' out. this will cause a low rpm vibration. I hope this helped. Keep us up to date. |
