Default 3.8L Mivec in 2001 GT?

Is it possible to go from a 3.0L to 3.8L Mivec in 3G? If so, can they be purchased alone or would it be wise to stick with a 3.0L and mod the hell out of it?

Stick with the 3.0l and check out Tearstone, for the money you would spend on trying to get that to work would probably double the cost of a nice turbo kit for that car.....just a thought.

Def.. tearstone, T T T T T TEARSTONE, TEARSTONE..... can work wonders with the 6G72. and the 3.8L im guessing isnt an easy swap because it would have been done by RRE by now

I see alot of number/letter combinations around here and I have no idea what they mean. I looked up 6G72 and found out it was an engine. Is there a way to find out exactly what type of engine I have? I'm sure it's just a plain 3.0L 24v but I still get confused when people use the acronyms around here hehe. For example, what is a 420, or maybe it was a 240. I can't really remember atm.

i think your saying a 420a which is the stock engine in the 2nd gen GS and RS models. And your engine is a 6G72 like emonz was saying. and don't be afraid to ask for more. On forums we get so tired of typing alot we really shorten everything with acronims. So i know it could get confusing

the numbers/letters that you see are engine codes. here is a break-down

1G non-turbo 1.8l = 4G37
1G non-turbo 2.0l = 4G63
1G turbo 2.0l = 4G63t

2G non-turbo 2.0l (excluding the 97-99 GS spyders) = 420a
2G 97-99 GS Spyders 2.4l = 4G64
2G turbo 2.0l = 4G63t

3G 4cyl = 4G64
3G V6 = 6G72

4G 4cyl = 4G69
4G V6 = 6G75

cliff notes...

1G = 89-94
2G = 95-99
3G = 00-05
4G = 06+

No sir... only 1G and 2Gs after that turbos went gonzo and there have been talks about a 07 GSX eclipse 4G with the EVO motor and drivetrain so 4G63 Turbo All Wheel Drive.

IF you want info about Turboing your 3G talk with Russ (Tearstone) he is on here every day or two and he is the man when it comes to 3Gs and turbos
