Default error p0401, EGR probs

Well, got my light checked at autozone for free... p0401 is the code "EGR flow insufficient" Hmmmmmmm.... is it the solenoid? A mech at sts said they go bad on the 2003 eclipse gt often. Could it be anything else before I go dumping money on the part(s)? Also is there a way to check the solenoid to see if that is the problem?

If I am correct it is the black cylindrical thing in front of the egr valve to the right (towards drivers side) of the manifold? It is making a swishing sound about twice a second when the engine is idling. Is this normal?

Car seems to be running fine but, I hate that light... I want it to go away. I have a AEM cold air in it and that's about it beside some nice rotors. The light came on a few months after I put the CAI on so, I don't think that's what caused it.

Any help is appreciated as I am too broke to pay for repairs or replace the whole EGR system.

Did a quick google search on your code and came up with this. Lots of things to try, a lot of which are free but time consuming. Hope this helps:

I know your post is old but I was wondering if you got the right answer. My 03 is doing the same thing.
