Which model Eclipse to buy?

Ok, so my girlfriend has been looking to try to find something reliable and really likes the 2000-2005 models, what my question is, which model is a better one? The 2000 and up or the 95-99 style? Also, I know the 95-99 models had the 420a engine... what are the 2.4's called? Which would be an easier car to work with if the motor needed a rebuild, tranny, etc? She's looking for something for 5000 or under.. so whatever she gets will have high miles and may need a rebuild. Anyway, thanks for any help you can offer.

the 3g comes with a 2.4L which is the 4g64. However there was also a V6 version of the 3g that came with the 6g72. As far as reliablility goes i would go more toward the 3g. You should be able to find a GS for around 5k.

ok cool, thanks for the info.... as far as mileage goes does anyone know the stats between the 4 and the 6? Obviously the 4 is better, and I have looked it up, but depending on how you drive what has everyone gotten?

the 4 banger is the easier one to work with....

my gts will go about 350-400 miles on a tank of gas on the highway.

city limits differs...i like to punch it when i am angry.

my specs are in my signature, so you can judge from that, obviously it will differ vs. a 4 banger or automatic

city: 22mpg
highway: 29mpg
