Need Help

I have a 05 eclipse Gs automatic
im trying to tune it out but its automatic...ppl keep telling me im wasting my money but i want to be able to have a fast automatic.
is there any ideas on what i should put next? i have a short ram, with a flowmaster exhaust? any ideas...many ppl tell me eclipses have a breathing problem?

depends on your budget, you can make them very fast but it will cost more than the car does, oh and some of the fastest 4cyl are automatics. but pretty much the only other thing you can do to the car is put a header on. after that there isnt much engine work you can do unless you can afford dropping some big cash on it

i want to keep this car for awhile so yea i would want to waste sum cash on it....i really fell in love with it nd want to go for that jdm look

if youre real serious about more power you can go turbo, itll cost alot, probably 4-5k and it takes alot of knowledge about how to install and tune. there are no kits you can but, but you can piece your own together. for basic kits alot of people take many parts from evo XIII's and 2g eclipse gst and gsx. the 4cyl 3g's can run about 15 psi on stock internals so you can save some money there. also alot of people do head swaps from evo's, making it a dohc, but thats after turboing.

also the 3g's are jdm, they are built in illinois and not even sold in japan but thats just alittle sidenote

do u think i should do sum camshaft work or crankshaft work? at all...i want to be able to hav all motor for now and later one snap on a turbo..but do u kno any recommendatons on headers that are quiet.. cuz thats wat the chp looks for is the louder sound.? do u think i should get a ecu chip or a ecu from a different car? cuz i hav the subtronic tranny nd i want sumthin that can help my low end torque

there is only one place that makes cams for the 3g and its rpw i believe, they make good parts but are located in australia i believe so it costs to get their stuff imported. most people i have seen have not added the aftermarket cam so i dont know a whole lot about them but rpw is a good company.

as far as headers go rpw makes some i believe i know they used to havent checked their site in a while, and then there is megan, which alot of people say are good i have no experience with them. a company called dc sports used to make them, i believe they went out of business but you may be able to find one. i got mine from a guy who used to sell them on forums, he called them cmf and i like them alot but you wont be able to find them. and to make it quiet i guess you could add a highflow catalytic converter, which should make it quiet, dont really know if theres a whole lot else you could do, you could probably have an extra resonator or something installed

as far as ecu there isnt many options, most people say its not worth it, ive heard one person who said he noticed an improvement. after you have intake, header, exhaust most people say to get your ecu flashed, if you know someone who can, and that greatly helps

yea i was gona go get sum dc headersbut are hard...wat do u mean wen u should get ur ecu flashed? do u know roughly how much a highflow cat could be?

Killswitch Jun 10, 2010 02:09 AM

highflow cats can be bought just about anywhere probably, a local exhaust shop probably has them. i think you can get them on ebay, magnaflow brand, for 120 or so im not real sure.

flashing the ecu is pretty much reprogramming it, freeing up some hp. there are some threads about it on club3g.com, they probably know more about it than me because i have never done it, youll probably have to do it yourself or you may find some members near you that could help

i would not suggest running more than 10psi on the stock block

The 3G motor can handle a little more than 10pSI. If you want to keep a reliable Daily driver you can stay between 10-15. But holding 15 all the time will blow your bottom end faster.

I have seen some of them running like 17 psi. for a little while but not to long. that is when the head starts to run out of air and cant flow anyway.
