another new sound system guy....
Hello there. So I finally have gotten enough money for a decent sound system for my 1997 Eclipse GS.
I already found the sub with an enclosure and amp all for $580. The sub is a JL Audio 12w7 and the amp is a Kenwood kac9104d. I checked both out the other day in the guys car and it sounds really nice, very clean and hits quite hard. Anyways, now I need the rest of the items. The person who previously owned my car had some sort of sound system in it but took it out. So the car is all wired for a sound system. I already put in a Blaupunkt Bahamas head unit in it and that works fine. Now for the speakers and an amp to go with them. This is where I come into a dilemma. I don't know what I should go with other than knowing Alpine makes some quality ones. I want a very crisp, clear, clean sound coming out of them, and not being overpowered by the sub. I also want it loud. I love blasting my music. What do you guys think I should go with? I don't really have a budget, but I don't want to spend $800+ on speakers and amp since I'm going away to school without my car in less than a year. Thanks, -A |

Nakamichi. The older ones, try ebay.

Is that for an amp or the speakers or what?

If you're looking for something that's widley available and not super expensive, you cant go wrong with Alpine or Infinity. My personal preference is the Infinity Kappas over the Alpine Type R, but that's getting into some money, and if you've got money to blow, don't forget a nice amp. Rockford Fosgate is my personal favorite, but there are a ton of good companies out there.
Stay awayf from Sony, Dual, Jensen, lower end MTX, Blaupunkt, JVC, etc. |

I've been stuck on Kicker lately. Never tried their component speakers but they have good amps. Infinity is good, big magnet though make sure you have enough room if you don't want to cut I always had that problem with infinity. I used a set of JBL 6x9's for almost two years running a 4 channel 1000 watt amp which is probably way more than it could handle but they worked good. Alpine is also good but personally i think all of their stuff is over priced but i mean it's good...i guess lol

Zapco amps. Nakamichi spkrs. Not the most cost efficient... but the best sound IMHO.
As far as store bought, I agree with Dan there and lil Evo... Infinity (reference series) or Alpine. |
RE: another new sound system guy....
Well I just got some infinity kappa 6x9 for the back and they sound superb so I am thinking about getting the 6.5 kappas for the front. The only problem is is that the side panel in the back doesn't fit anymore so I'm riding a bit....ghetto atm hah.
How do you guys think I should go about modifying the panel? And would the 6.5 kappas fit in the front smoothly? And as far as the amp goes.... What 4-channel should I go with for the speakers? -A |
