01 Montero limited 4wd, sport 2wd front hub swap.
 

I am currently working on getting 01 Mitsubishi Montero limited for a customer of mine. The vehicle was stuck in 4 high for about a week and was driven around consistently at that time at high speeds. I was able to get the vehicle out of 4 high but the CV axles are making quite a noise and it also ruined both wheel bearings and caliper mounts. I told him not to drive it very long distances and to swap all of those parts before driving it again when he drove it the next day it somehow ended up back in 4 high without touching the shift selector (odd), and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. The hub bearing on a passenger side gave out completely and was grinding it to I halt, wouldn't even coast 2 to 4 feet by itself.
I removed the CV axles and front differential, replaced the wheel bearings and turned the rotors. I messed up by putting the wheels back on the ground, the passenger side hub was separated at the bearing (a brand new one! *facepalm*). Because the CV axle wasn't there to keep the bearing sucked in towards the vehicle. I recently went to an LKQ Pick Your Part that we have here in Colorado and came across a 03 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Miraculously this Montero has brand-spanking-new calipers pads and rotors!!!
I realize that the inner Hub diameter is slightly larger on these hubs, but the bolt pattern on the rims are the same. I am thinking I can use the same rims by enlarging the hub center of the rim to fit. I was not successful with getting the parts off before the place closed but I will be going back first thing in the morning to get both hub assemblies. I will post as many pictures as I can of the process and every step that I take to do this conversion, as well as showing how to short out and remove 4x4 shift selector and sensors, in an attempt to keep the computer from freaking out.. I realize this seems like a pointless conversion, but I am a True Believer of two wheel drive particularly rear wheel drive vehicles over 4x4. It is one less thing to worry about when I am off-roading I prefer two wheel drive because that is one less thing I have to worry about breaking on the trail.
Regardless I hope this info is useful to somebody, I really hope I am the first one to successfully do this
