I have a 1997 Eclipse 2.0L non-turbo. Is the fuel check valves part of the fuel pump? If I replace the fuel pump, will the check valves be part of the new fuel pump?

No not the fuel pressure regulator. Form what ive researched the Eclipse fuel pump utilizes two check valves to control fuel pressure and correct fuel flow through the gas lines. I was just wondering if these check valves are part of the fuel pump. I have have been experiencing acceleration hesitation. My check engine light isn't coming on. I have tested the fuel pressure regulator by unplugging the vacuum line and there is no fuel coming out of it when the engine is running. I tested my fuel pressure and its high at idle but when I shut the car off the pressure drops to 0. The car starts and runs good at idle but hesitates during acceleration. Tested the compression and its high.

the little piece of fuel hose that hooks the pump to the fuel tube in the tank is rotten or a bad regulator and change your fuel filter

I checked the hose that goes from the hanger to the pump and its okay but I put some better clamps on it just to be on the safe side. The fuel filter has been replaced. Could the fuel pressure regulator be bad even though it isn't leaking fuel when the vacuum line is disconnected? Another thing to note is I was driving the car yesterday and the check engine light started blinking and now it is staying on. The car hesitates when the gas pedal is pushed in about half way to full throttle. It doesn't hesitate when I barely hit the gas.

the fuel pump regulates pressure and fuel flow. if you replace the pump it should fix the problem

put a pressure gauge on the fuel line and see if the regulator is holding pressure could also be a bad tps

What would be the best way to distinguish whether it is a fuel pressure regulator or a check valve in the fuel pump? I hooked the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail the first time I ran the pressure check. Do I need to somehow hook the fuel pressure gauge directly to the fuel pump? I should probably run the code from the check engine light. I was thinking maybe TPS sensor or 02 sensor. Would a 02 sensor cause bad hesitation? I'm going try to get the fuel pressure tested and run the code tomorrow if I'm not to busy. I will let you know what happens.

Well I ran the codes on the check engine light and I got: PO300, PO301, and PO302, which is cylinder misfire. It seems that the fuel pressure is holding when the engine is off. Not sure if it is fuel or electrical related. The car seems to be running lean. The plugs are not carbon fouled or giving me any indication that it is running rich.
