Installing Fuel Pressure Regulator w/ boost reference
This thread is a "How To" on installing an MSD fuel pressure regulator
with boost reference(it ups the fuel pressure while your in boost) It
is part # MDS-2222 and I got it off of Summit for my 1993 Eclipse GSX
but im sure it will help all the boosted 1g guys. Also i know some of
you guys will ask yourselves "why is he doing a write up on something so
easy?" Well the fact of the matter is because mine did not come with
instructions and i was a little puzzled on the inlet, outlet, and
placement of the product.
First things first- What are the parts you might need? And about how
much money will you spend?
1. Fuel Pressure Regulator w/ Boost Reference. Part # MSD-2222....
$82.95 total on Summitracing.com
2. Vaccum tubing.... $3.97 from Advanced Auto Parts
3. Hose "T's".... $1.88 from Advanced Auto Parts
4. Hose clamps.... about $5.00 from Oreilly Auto Parts
5. A pair of visegrips for the clamps and a set of scissors for cutting
the fuel line and the vaccum line.
First step is relieve the pressure from the lines. I found that for
this all you really need to do is take off your gas cap. You wont lose
hardly any gas i promise.
Now your next step is to locate the fuel RETURN line. It is located in
the right rear corner of the engine bay.
Here I'm showing you what it looks like. Mine had the word "fuel"
written on it. Pretty easy to find.
Now that you've found it you need to cut it in half. I took the whole
hose off because it was just easier for me.
After you cut the fuel line in half connect it to the regulator using 2
of the bigger clips. The side without the nut is the inlet(towards
top of pic), the side with the nut is the outlet(right of pic), and the
smallest little connector is for a vaccum line(left of pic.)
With the fuel lines connected it should look something like this:
Next step is to reconnect the hose and the regulator to the engine.
You might need to trim up the fuel line a little bit for a better/tighter
fit, i know i had to.
Next, you need to cut about 6-8 inch long piece of vaccum line.
Now take one of those "T" fittings
and one of the small clamps and it should look something like this:
Next, connect the other end to the vaccum line fitting on the regulator
using one of your small clamps.
Now you need to tap into a vaccum line. I used the same one my boost
gauge was hooked up too, but if you dont have a boost gauge then it was
this one on the lower right hand corner of were all those vaccum lines
are above the brake booster.
Next cut the vaccum line the closed you possibly can to the fuel
regulator and then fit the hose with the "T" fitting on it to that line using
2 more of your small clamps.
and thats it, this is what it should look like when you are finished,
basically hidden
Hope this helps some of you guys out there, I tried explaining it in
the most basic way I could if you have any questions about the regulator
MSD's site is very educational.
