03 Outlander rpm's and timing belt

Like my outlander. Bought it used with only 63400 miles on it. While driving when I go over 35 mph the rpm's goes up. On the highway it runs between 2500 & 3000 rpm's. Is this normal? Also I am trying to find out when to change the timing belt as well. Got a call into the dealership on this. So far it's running around 23 to 25 mpg which is a far cry about what I was getting with my old vehicle. Thnaks

not sure if you are still interested in a response buy my 05 outlander runs in that excat RPM range...closer to 3k when going around 70mpg.. I got my timing belt changed last week at 90k miles. I think it was due at 60k. Also got my tranny fluid changed.. runs great other than the water pump I had put in with the timing belt is bad so getting another one..
